The Challenge Almere-Amsterdam course is the world’s only long distance triathlon course located below sea level on reclaimed land at the bottom of what was once the Zuiderzee! Still surrounded by water, the course features the typical Dutch landscapes renowned the world over – dikes, windmills, tulip fields and endless straight, fast roads where the battle is between you and the elements.
Don’t miss out on any event, stay motivated, enjoy interacting with others.
Els Visser is currently considered one of the most successful Dutch Long Distance athletes. She has never won Challenge Almere-Amsterdam yet, but in 2018 she finished second - behind none other than Yvonne van Vlerken, who is also Dutch. This year, Els is keen on victory and is also the biggest favorite for the win. Earlier this season she finished second at Challenge Gran Canaria and second at Challenge Salou. She was also one of Nicola Spirig's pacers during the Sub8 project.
Milan Brons is a local hero in Almere. Last year he made his Long Distance debut at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam and he did so with great success; he finished ninth at the World Championships, became second at the Dutch National Championships and fastest athlete from Almere as well. Milan Brons will almost certainly race at the front of the pro field and make the race even more exciting. Earlier this year Brons got his first podium as a professional athlete.
