On the first leg of our journey, you'll cycle through Ampefy, a tourist attraction located west of Antananarivo. This region is known for its proximity to Lake Itasy, the third-largest lake in the country. It features natural attractions like the Lily Waterfall and the nearby geysers of Analavory. You’ll see many terraced farmlands combining agriculture with unique geological features.
Ambatolampy, located south of Antananarivo, sits at the base of the Ankaratra mountain range in Madagascar's central highlands. In the second stage, you'll cycle through this region, covering 19 km with 353 meters of ascent on gently undulating terrain. The route offers views of rolling hills, rice fields, and small villages. As you cycle, you'll pass through farmlands where fruits and vegetables are grown, and lazy cows are herded, adding to the countryside's laid-back character.
Manandoana is a small village in the highlands known for its varied, terraced landscapes and traditional, at times colourful, Malagasy houses and buildings surrounded by rice paddies and rolling hills. On your 23 km flat ride to Manandoana on mixed terrain, you'll experience a glimpse of local life and culture while viewing the area's natural beauty and serenity.
Today, you'll ride 21 km northwest to Ambakoana, a small village surrounded by dry and verdant landscapes - characteristic of highland scenery. The area is known for its agricultural activities and livelihood, with the locals growing their crops to sell in nearby markets. Ambakoana offers a glimpse into traditional rural life, where you can almost immerse yourself in the region's natural wilderness and the culture of the people.
Next, you will continue to Ambositra, a scenic 23 km journey in Madagascar. As you cycle, you'll pass traditional clay and straw houses with rolling hills and terraced rice paddies. The primarily arid terrain features clusters of forested areas, rugged outcrops, and narrow winding rivers framed by rolling hills in the distance.
Head off on the final stage of your journey along a 26 km route through the Ankafina-Tsarafidy region, a rural area in Madagascar's highlands. Rugged, rolling hills, terraced fields, and patches of forest will be your backdrop. You will navigate through a lively village main road. It is like a busy hive of daily activities with its local shops, markets, and street vendors, a somewhat chaotic contrast to the tranquil surrounding countryside where traditional red-clay houses dot the landscape.
