Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Radsports, the race event organizer behind ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT and DEUTSCHLAND TOUR, will host the virtual German Classic on ROUVY at the same time as the actual race. On May 1st, the international community will be able to watch and race in one of the greatest cycling festivals of Germany - ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT - from home.
In the transition from the spring monuments to the national tours, there will once again be a battle between the pro classics specialists and the sprinters' elite. In a total of 20 selected teams, with BORA – hansgrohe being the only German team, Bahrain Victorious; Cofidis; EF Education – Easypost; Israel – Premier Tech; Lotto Soudal and UAE Team Emirates might select their German riders for the home audience. AG2R Citroën Team and Trek – Segafredo complete the international squads. From the ProTeams, the Top 5 of the UCI Europe Tour have confirmed their participation, including French outfits Team Arkéa – Samsic and TotalEnergies. As usual with big classics, the established route remains. The winner will be crowned in front of the Alte Oper in 2022.
The amateurs, local community and Frankfurt guests on-site will enjoy the course and one of the oldest bike festivals of Germany. ROUVY and GFR are happy to offer a virtual community version of the ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT to take place on May 1, 2022, now for the 3rd time. Thanks to the 1:1 simulations by ROUVY, all riders who want to feel what it is like to be a pro for one day or just for fun, will ride on a shorter loop of the ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT, the ŠKODA VELOTOUR course.
Matthias Pietsch, Project Manager of the ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT says, “The collaboration between GFR and ROUVY is going great, as we see the actual and international participation in our bike festival going up every year. The streets between Eschborn and Frankfurt expect many pros and amateur riders as never before”. Petr Samek, CEO of ROUVY adds, “We are happy to provide the digital platform for the German Classics. Our vision of connecting the best of the outdoor and indoor worlds provides anyone with the possibility to try the course from home and thus motivates them to come one day to see and ride in Frankfurt, in person”.
During May 2022, the ‘ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT’ will host a series of events on ROUVY
● Challenge from Apr 25 - May 22
● Virtual Race on May 1, 13:00 CEST
Virtual ŠKODA VELOTOUR ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT
The elite World Tour race course is 185 km long, but the road course on ROUVY is a shorter version with 40,5km distance and 307m of altitude. The route will have a similar branding of start and finish arches, as well as other real-life objects. So, the riders of the German Classic will enjoy the atmosphere of realistic presence as at the actual event. The course is available for community riding and racing. For those who prefer a less competitive format, the ‘Challenge’ format provides the opportunity to ride the course and also other virtual German locations at any convenient time with a chance to win cool prizes from EF.

About ESCHBORN-FRANKFURT
Eschborn-Frankfurt is the most traditional cycling race in Germany. The German Classic on May 1 has been deeply rooted in the Frankfurt region since 1962. For the international top riders, this day marks the end of the Spring Classics in the WorldTour calendar. The pros fight for glory on a pure classic course with iconic climbs and more than 3,200 vertical meters. Hundreds of thousands celebrate a cycling festival on and along the route. In addition to the pro riders, there is a broad program for everyone, including an amateur edition on three courses, races for cyclists in all junior categories and rides even for the youngest kids. 18 competitions in one day for more than 7,000 cyclists makes the German Classic truly unique in the world. www.eschborn-frankfurt.de
