**So what is OmniMode?**
 
In simple terms, OmniMode is the [latest upgrade to the ROUVY app](https://support.rouvy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018747798-Changelog?_ga=2.23894074.1612673440.1675088313-1863005696.1636630121&_gac=1.259936504.1671526006.Cj0KCQiA14WdBhD8ARIsANao07jOofwnynx4j_Pi7n_QvnDF6TZhtrDnfe1tw5JjtMWwmAIAj5Jt-VcaAmFfEALw_wcB) that uses improved technology during the digital creation of the rides to improve the indoor cycling experience by giving it more realism and more options.

By using actual video footage filmed on-location and mixing real routes with digital avatars, ROUVY has always been acclaimed for being one of, if not the, most realistic indoor cycling app on the market. But until now, when riding on ROUVY, there had only really been one view available - straight ahead.
Not any more. 
When we're cycling in real life we instinctively like to look around; to see local scenery and landmarks we're passing, to see other riders in the peleton, or to look over our shoulder at what's behind. This was the aim of OmniMode and its introduction of a 360° range of views is a gamechanger in the way we see the world around us while riding indoors. 



**What are the New Features?**
 
Let's look at the individual new features and what it means for the rider:

**360 View**. When the 360° View mode feature is on, the camera view will track the rider and then rapidly spin 180° to show the reverse view. This creates a dynamic riding experience that feels more like a live televised event and allows the rider to see more of the landscape around them.
This can be set to automatic where it changes every 50m or switched manually.

**Rear camera view** - As you cycle mile after mile staring forward, have you ever wondered who or what is behind you? Wonder no more! Now you can switch the camera view 180 degrees to see what's in your rear view. Imagine having a camera in the back of your helmet so you can now see a local landmark you might have missed, the rest of the peloton or who may be about to launch an attack.

**Altitude Profile** (left top corner above) works in much better detail and smoothness - it's more user-friendly and accurate. The riding experience features even more realistic gradients, and this is especially noticeable on high-end trainers.

**Visibility** is far more detailed and smooth with improved definition and resolution. Objects and their details are visible at much further distances. You can also now see other riders/avatars and overlaid 3D objects at further distances. This will be felt much more noticeably for multi-rider experiences in group rides and races with enhanced levels of interactivity.

The camera angle in OmniMode is now higher and the view is wider and more panoramic. In complex technical terminology, you can now see more.  


We've also got rid of a lot of annoying minor bugs. Avatars now follow the laws of physics more strictly and realistically when they disappear behind stationary objects, trees & turns. The camera now follows your trajectory precisely on turns so your avatar doesn't disappear offscreen. The avatar's movement on turns is also more realistic.

It's important to stress that this is not a radical overhaul of the app or the way it is used, but a refinement and enhancement of the existing experience if you're riding an OmniMode route. Users who are used to riding on ROUVY can continue to do so in the same way. It'll just be better.
From now on, new [OmniMode routes](https://rouvy.com/routes/omnimode?_ga=2.236950529.1612673440.1675088313-1863005696.1636630121&_gac=1.93664623.1671526006.Cj0KCQiA14WdBhD8ARIsANao07jOofwnynx4j_Pi7n_QvnDF6TZhtrDnfe1tw5JjtMWwmAIAj5Jt-VcaAmFfEALw_wcB) will come with OmniMode as the default setting so try them out if you haven't done so already. However, if you prefer the old way of using ROUVY, you can turn off the Auto 360 camera view and keep the fixed forward view. Controls can be manually adjusted in the app so you can play with it and find what works best for you. You are in control of the way you ride. 


We will continue to add 'basic' AR routes but new OmniMode routes will be introduced at the approximate rate of one a week.

OmniMode is the 'baby' of ROUVY's chief research officer Jiri Samek, who has been working hard on it with his team and is now delighted to share it with the ROUVY community. Here's what he has to say about it:

*"OmniMode is the next level of AR technology for ROUVY. What we have released so far was just the first step to establish the concept and this shows the direction of how we intend to develop it in the future. We want to create more of a 3D, 360 degree experience with better freedom of movement.*

*There are two main big advantages with OmniMode. Firstly it creates a far more realistic experience for the user with a more immersive visual experience. For me, that's the most important and exciting thing about this. The trajectories are much better, the movement on gradients is more realistic and so the feeling you get is more authentic.*
*Secondly, it also opens the door for users to be able to upload their own routes in the future as this technology is far more reliable. The potential opportunities this new technology has for developing usable 3D spaces is huge.* 
 
*Previously routes were recorded using a Go-Pro Max camera recorded by our own technical teams. **Looking to the Future**
 
On launch, we have introduced 8 OmniMode routes so try them out and we would love to hear your reaction. As Jiri Samek says, your feedback is very important and it will help us plan and determine how we can continue to improve the app for you.

We are also introducing a new Video Player to the app which will create much smoother, clearer playback.  
Coming soon is a new Companion App which will give you more control during your ride at your fingertips.
This new technology has many applications and opens up new possibilities which we are very excited about. Advanced 3D mapping? Off-road routes? More riding options? Who knows. 
So the view of the future with ROUVY is not only rosy but now it comes in 360° and we look forward to building the ROUVY road forward with you.

STRAVA

**Strava segments offer a way to dig deeper into your activities. No route is ever uniform: in any ride, roads will be steeper and more undulating than others, and some will even have different surfaces. Multiple, varied segments all form one ride - and the power of Strava segments is the ability to view detailed analysis of your performance on each segment. When riding on ROUVY, get a better understanding of your rides to push yourself to be the best performer on any segment of a route.**

Ever wanted to know how you performed on a specific part of a route that has both flat and elevated surfaces? Perhaps you’d like to see how you cycled on a particularly steep part of a ride, or a section with sharp turns. Strava Segments help you achieve exactly this.

 

**Understand your rides better**
 

By dividing your ride into different sections of roads and trails (or “segments”), you can see detailed results across different stages during your entire ride. Speed, wattage, cadence, elevation and gradients are all displayed to help you understand your ride progress in greater detail. With a heart rate monitor, you can even see a detailed breakdown of your heart rate analysis to see which parts of the segment tested you more than others.

The analysis goes further – helpful, clear visuals pinpoint exactly where you excelled. A Strava subscription helps you unlock the best features that Segments have to offer. 
 

With Strava Segments, you can monitor – and beat – your personal bests, with notifications if you reached your fastest, second-fastest or third-fastest time on a segment. To help you improve, you can also set segment or power goals to help you beat your times in the future. You can also look back at your previous efforts on a specific Segment and compare, in detail, your outcome on each occasion.

**Discover new segments**
 

With millions of segments registered in Strava, there is a lot of exploring to do. If you like, you can search for segments in Stava’s database globally with the Segment Explore feature, and take a look at its characteristics and who the top performers are. You can filter segments by searching for flat routes or climbs, as well as the type of surface. Feel free to add a segment to your favorites, too, so you can come back to it at any time.

**See your progress during the ride!**
 

You do not even have to wait until your ride is completed to see how your progress compares to others. An extremely helpful and exciting feature is the Strava Live Segments tool. 

On your mobile device or favorite GPS bike computer, when riding and approaching a starred or popular segment, you will receive a notification and can track your avatar’s personal best as well as that of the King/Queen of the Mountain. Try your best to catch up with the best times and beat the records! When the segment is complete, you’ll be shown your final results while riding.

**Get to the top of the leaderboards and see how you fare against the rest**
 

Curious to see how your stats compare to other riders? The Segment Leaderboards offer the best answers. Each registered segment has a leaderboard with its best performers, featuring respective Course Record holders, and Kings and Queens of the Mountain. 

With a Strava subscription, you can see the full leaderboards, and even filter and compare your results with people from your own gender, weight and age! **‘AUGMENTED WORKOUT’ - OVERLAY OVER ANY AR COURSE**

Once you choose the workout, you can also select any of your favorite AR routes and enjoy doing a workout in the beautiful landscape of, for example, the Alps or the urban environment of London.

The benefit, of course, is that you will see your avatar as you would during any other rides on ROUVY. (Please note, during the workout other live riders on the course will not be visible for now.)

Though not all AR videos are displayed by default, use specific route names in 'search' to get hold of the whole AR catalogue. 

 

**REWORKED CATALOG STRUCTURE**

The Workout Catalog has received a structural update with revised category folders that enable quicker access. We kick off with a great new UI with fewer categories to keep the workouts offering simple. Additionally, we are already working with excellent coaches to bring you fresh well-structured training content. **5-WEEK TRAINING PROGRAM FOR BEGINNERS**

Please welcome an introduction to the concept of multi-week training plans with a 5-week program aimed at beginners. **PORTED TRAININGPEAKS INTEGRATION**

An extensive ROUVY library provides enough workouts for the most demanding athletes and coaches to fill any individual or team training plan. Additionally, to receive an instant ready-to-go plan from the most popular coaching platform there is an automatic sync of data exchange with TrainingPeaks. Connect your account in the ‘Cloud’ section of My Rouvy and have your daily workouts uploaded to ROUVY. They will appear in the TrainingPeaks category.

While performing ERG workouts, you are able to see your avatar over the specific AR course, turning a casual prescribed training routine into a real-time adventure.

- Go to the workout app section and choose the interval in the existing categories. 
   -> Alternatively, to access the full library of workouts, it is recommended to start with the ‘Search’ tab on ‘myrouvy’ web in the catalog. Then, the chosen Workout is added to “Favourites'' which can be easily accessed later in the apps.  

   -> Launch the ROUVY app, switch to the “Workouts” section, and find the chosen workout in the “Favourite” folder.

- Choose the augmented route. For the best experience, it is recommended to download the route in advance in the route section; but in most cases, streaming works fine as well. Click "Start workout" button and complete a workout where the rider’s avatar can be displayed in different distance positions or turned off. The intensity of intervals/level of resistance can be adjusted manually with “+” plus and “-” minus buttons on the right side of the screen.
- TrainingPeaks members should sync their accounts in the “Cloud” section on ‘myrouvy’ (in user settings) to be able to locate the ‘Workout of the Day’ in the TrainingPeaks folder. 
- If you would like to import a workout, you can do it by clicking the button "Add workout" and importing .ERG or
.MRC file.
- One more option is to create your on workout via the [web](https://my.rouvy.com/cs?_fid=e72m) and add to your 'Favourites' folder. 
 

**Important notes**

- While the smart trainer resistance is controlled by the ERG segments, the rider’s avatar is moving just by power, like if you were riding on a 0% slope.

- The workout session done on the AR route is not considered for this route leaderboard.

**Legacy Apps**

Divided into 2 apps after the release of ‘ROUVY AR’, this app update now finishes the process of merging and unifying ROUVY Workouts into ROUVY AR as a one and single ‘ROUVY’. ‘ROUVY Workouts’ apps are getting set into a deprecation mode; and functioning of these apps will be eventually discontinued. A fraction of riders whose legacy trainers or sensors may not be compatible with the new ROUVY will be provided with a discount from vendor partners and invited to acquire more modern equipment.

**3.** From the “Cloud” page, you will see the Final Surge logo listed as one of the connected app options. Click either the “Auto” or “Manual” connection options.

**Automatic share mode** – workouts will sync automatically as you complete them.

**Manual share mode**– you must manually click a button to sync the workout to Final Surge.

 

**4**. Once youchoose one of the connection options, you will be asked to log into your Final Surge account to authorize the connection between the apps.

 

**5.** After you authorize the connection, you’ll see either “Auto” or “Manual” highlighted to the right of the Final Surge logo, confirming the connection is complete.

That’s it!  If you chose the “Auto” connection option, all future completed workouts will automatically sync to your Final Surge calendar.

**What is DRAFTING?**

*One of the benefits of group riding is experiencing the drafting effect while being in a paceline of another cyclist.*

*Drafting occurs when a cyclist moves into an area of low pressure behind another cyclist, reducing the wind resistance and the amount of energy required to pedal. Doing this correctly can reduce the amount of effort you’re putting in by 30%, meaning you can go further, faster and get more PRs!*

*Racing becomes not only about your power but also about your tactical skills. It will also make racing more fun because of the tactical elements. Scan the profile of the route, save some power and attack in the key moments!*

 

**Grand Prix Bad Homburg** is the first public race on ROUVY where you can try the drafting feature and show others your tactical skills. The drafting feature in BETA will be enabled exclusively only for this race, so don't miss the opportunity to try it!

**How much energy does drafting save on a bicycle?**

Interestingly, there seems to be little consensus among researchers that have investigated this topic. Studies have shown drag reductions of between 27% and 50% for riders who are drafting. The exact reduction depends on several variables — the size and the location of the bike in front, likewise with the drafting rider, the distance from the wheel in front, the direction and the wind speed.

 

**How does DRAFTING work in ROUVY AR?**

In the new DRAFTING feature on ROUVY, the experience of following behind a rider with a steady speed is replicated. Naturally, the benefits of the drafting effect also depend on the route profile and performance of the rider in front of you.

 

Based on the drafting position, your power and heart rate values will increase or decrease. When you are close to the rider in front of you, you will notice the decrease in resistance & HR values. On the other hand, once you are not in the slipstream, the resistance will increase.

 

In the picture above, you can see the drafting indicator - the green bar shows the distance between 15-0m. For the best drafting effect, you need to be as close as possible to the cyclist in front of you in order to maximise the effects of the feature. 

 

**HOW CAN YOU TRY THE DRAFTING FEATURE ON ROUVY?**

The drafting feature is in beta testing right now. It is still being developed in order to mimic reality as much as possible.
